Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Quinton Lilley

Dill's tip in gives Jessup 82-80 win over No. 2 The Master's

ROCKLIN, Calif. - In a game that looked to be slipping away from the Warriors in the final minute, the Jessup men's basketball team pulled-off their third buzzer-beater of the season when Austin Dill got a tip-in to fall giving the home team an 82-80 win over No. 2 The Master's Thursday night.

Coach Lance Von Vogt said the win was a great example of how good his team can ultimately be. "This win was for Jourdan (Johnson) who had his surgery today. Losing him last week was a huge blow to us, but if nothing else we are a deep ball club and these guys are mastering the next up mentality. They really care about each other and that's how they stick together in the tough moments."

The Warriors (11-5, GSAC 3-1) got off to a bit of a slow start as they trailed 22-13 after the opening seven minutes of play. However back-to-back threes from Isaiah Milan and Jayden DeJoseph cut into TMU's lead.

TMU then regained control when they grabbed a 33-23 lead at the 8:30 mark, but a 10-2 run sparked by a one-handed dunk from Oliver Amajoyi, back to back threes from Milan and Wilson LaShells, and a reverse lay-in by Sam Howlin helped Jessup get back within two with 5:08 left in the half.

By halftime, the Warriors grabbed a 48-45 lead.

To start the second half Luis Medearis and Erik Kinnebrew got things going for the Warriors as they combined to score seven quick points. Later in the half, Medearis continued his hot streak hitting jumpers on consecutive possessions as Jessup took a 62-53 lead.

By the 13:15 mark, the Warriors were on cruise control as they held a 15-point advantage. However, TMU responded as they gradually chipped away at the Warriors lead getting the game back within striking distance with five minutes left.

Von Vogt complimented TMU for how well they played late in the second half. "Master's is as good as they come. They have multiple All-Americans on their squad and they are well-coached."

With a minute remaining, TMU cut Jessup's lead down to two, and then tied the game up with nine seconds left.

On the final play of the game, the Warriors called Milan's number but his three-point shot was partially blocked and Dill was in the right spot to tip it in as the buzzer went off.

Dill and LaShells both played key roles in the win for Jessup and Von Vogt said their contributions were much needed. "Austin never stops competing and he was rewarded with the game-winner and Wilson also gave us a huge game off the bench tonight, which was great to see."

As a team, the Warriors have continued to improve their decision making as they had just nine turnovers on the night while forcing 18 for The Master's. Individually Medearis had another strong game as he poured in a team-high 26 points and six rebounds. Milan also had a solid performance with 16 points and five assists, and LaShells rounded out the Warriors double-digit scorers with 11 off the bench.

Jessup will now face their second-consecutive top-25 team when Westmont comes to Warrior Arena Saturday at 2 p.m.
