Warriors Show Fight in Loss To San Francisco

Next up for the Warriors is conference play, which will begin in early January

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.— The Warriors continued their non-conference schedule on Friday afternoon, again taking on an NCAA Division I team in the likes of the University of San Francisco. After a tough 87-47 loss, Jessup's record moves to 2-6 on the year.

Friday's game officially wraps up the preseason slate of games as the Warriors will now focus on the upcoming GSAC schedule, which will begin in early January.

Head coach Hernando Planells shared his thoughts after the game saying, "Our girls never give up." He added, "They will continue to fight no matter what, and they are willing to play hard for each other until the final buzzer."

First Half

The offense was slow out of the gate for the Warriors as they trailed 22-8 after the first quarter, but the aggressiveness was evident as they outrebounded the Dons 9-5. Once the second quarter began, the Warriors' offense caught fire.

For Jessup, the second quarter was their highest-scoring frame as they posted 18 points. Similar to how it has been throughout the course of the season, the Warriors had a balanced scoring attack with nine players logging points in the half.

Coach Planells noted, "It's always good to have girls who can score. The last eight games have served as much-needed experience for all our players so we can rely on all our of them when needed."

Second Half

Paige Winter continued to add on to her excellent freshman campaign, thus against another formidable opponent. In total, Winter scored all eight of her points in the second half as she went two-of-four from the field and was four-of-four from the free-throw line.

Winter, along with Aycee Willis, led the Warriors in scoring with eight points each. JoeLyn Stirton and Maila Lepolo ended the game with six. Senior Miranda Zaragoza continued to lead the charge on the glass with a team-high seven rebounds.

What's Next

After a grueling preseason schedule, the Warriors have been battle-tested in all facets. Now the focus shifts to their Golden State Athletic Conference foes. Coming out of Christmas break, the first conference game for Jessup will be played in Warrior Arena against the San Diego Christian Hawks on Saturday, January 9 at 11 a.m.
