Jessup Falls to Westmont

First conference doubleheader ends in a loss.

Lincoln, Calif. – The Warriors returned to McBean Park ready to begin conference play in a four-game series against Westmont College. Jessup has a 9-15 record against Westmont historically and looked to even the record out. The Warriors had a tough time at the plate and dropped both games. Their season record moves to 11-5.

Westmont earned a quick lead in game one. Jessup answered with one run in the bottom of the third off of an RBI single from Kevin Jordan Jr. and a ninth-inning RBI sacrifice fly from Kevin Gutierrez. Unfortunately, they were unable to overcome the Westmont lead and dropped game one, 15-2.

The second game started in a similar fashion as Westmont earned the early lead. Jessup got on the board in the bottom of the third with a two-run homer from Gutierrez, but that would be their only run. The Warriors lost game two, 6-2.

After the game, Jessup head coach Trevor Paine stated, "We just have to tip our caps to Westmont. They were the better team today. They out executed us in all areas. We need to regroup and come out ready to play tomorrow to find a way to salvage the series. It's going to take a team effort."

The Warriors earned 13 hits on the day compared to Westmont's 26 hits. Anders Green led the Warriors at the plate as he hit 3-for-8.

Jessup returns to McBean Park on Saturday, February 15th, to finish out the series against Westmont College, the doubleheader begins at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM respectively.
