Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Josh Carson

Jessup unable to complete the comeback at Menlo

ATHERTON, Calif. - Saturday night's match-up between Jessup and Menlo saw the Warriors' comeback effort from 20 down in the first half fall short. With the loss, Jessup finished their season series with the Oaks tied at one win apiece. Jessup (16-9, 8-5) trailed from wire-to-wire on Saturday against Menlo (15-7, 9-4), falling by a final score of 91-83.

Coach Lance Von Vogt spoke to the match-up saying, "It was Menlo's senior night and they came out with a lot of energy and really put it on us out of the gate. I thought we absorbed the blow pretty well and battled back, but we made way too many unforced errors and missed too many free throws to get over the hump."

Menlo jumped out to an early 10 point lead but Jaylen Johnson trimmed the deficit with a triple. The Oaks led 17-10 with 14:17 to play in the opening half.

Over the next five and a half minutes, Menlo opened up a 17-4 run to grab a 20 point advantage. Jessup began to cut into the lead as Luis Medearis drained a three-pointer and Austin Dill found two points inside on an assist by Sam Howlin. Menlo led 34-20 with 6:33 remaining.

The lead stayed consistent for Menlo throughout the rest of the first half as the home team held a 53-40 advantage heading into halftime.

In the first 10 minutes of the second half, Jessup mounted a comeback to pull within two points of Menlo, 64-62. Over the course of the 22-11 run, Isaiah Milan scored on a layup in his return to the lineup, Dill connected from downtown, and Oliver Amajoyi converted on a layup off of a Milan assist.

After a 6-0 Menlo run, Jaydon Clark scored on a three-pointer to cut the deficit to five with 9:33 left in regulation.

Jessup was again able to pull within two with 33 seconds left as Medearis laid the ball in and Menlo led 85-83. From there, the Oaks finished the game with three perfect trips to the charity stripe to close out the Warriors 91-83.

Von Vogt commented on the final minutes of the game saying, "Down the stretch we had our opportunities, but we didn't capitalize and I felt that we rushed which led to some questionable shots."

Even with the loss, Jessup doubled-up Menlo in the paint 32-16. Medearis led all scorers with 30, Dill followed with 17, Milan and Amajoyi each added 11.

The Warriors will look to end their three-game skid as they play host to San Diego Christian on Thursday night. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
