Box Score 2 REDDING, Calif. - It was day two of three for the Warrior's softball weekend as they faced a pair of opponents in Eastern Oregon University and Simpson in the Simpson Classic. The Warriors trailed after the first inning of game one, but a rally would end it early defeating the Mountaineers while the Red Hawks of Simpson would turn the tide and take game two.
The Mountaineers struck with four runs in the first inning, but the William Jessup Warriors won 12-4 on Saturday.
The Warriors pulled away for good with four runs in the second inning as
Shay Trent hit a solo homer and
Natalie Basaldua homered on a 1-1 count, scoring three runs for the 7-3 advantage.
Another four runs in the fourth inning would come from big bats led by a walk by
Terra Goetz and a home run by
Jordyn Turner.
Liana Castro was in the pitcher's circle for William Jessup Warriors. She surrendered four runs on eight hits over four innings, striking out two and walking one for her first win of the season.
Taylor Swift came in for a save and a one-two-three inning to secure the win.
The Jessup Warriors hit three home runs in game one and five on the day. Basaldua had a homer in the second inning. Turner put one out in the fourth inning. Trent went for the long ball in the second inning.
William Jessup Warriors scattered 12 hits in the game. Basaldua,
Chelsie Kam-Aweau, Haley Hiett, and
Taya Ruiz each collected multiple hits for the Jessup Warriors.
The Simpson Red Hawks took the lead early on in the first inning as the game slipped away and the Warriors couldn't recover in an 11-2 loss to the Simpson Red Hawks.
Simpson got on the board in the first inning and would scatter runs in every inning excluding the second, finishing it with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the fifth.
The final two home runs on the day were tallied by
Mehana Johns in the fourth inning with Basaldua following suit in the following at-bat, her second on the day.
Basaldua,
Terra Goetz,
Taya Ruiz, and Johns each collected one hit to lead William Jessup Warriors.
Katie Blankenheim was in the circle for the Warriors before Castro finished it in the final inning.
The Warriors will duel the duo again tomorrow at 8 am and 10 am respectively.
