Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Quinton Lilley

Dill scores career-high as Warriors fall at No. 19 ACU

GLENDALE, Ariz. – After closing out their regular-season home schedule with two wins last week, the Jessup men's basketball team faced their final top-25 opponent of the GSAC schedule as they ultimately fell to No. 19 Arizona Christian 106-61 Thursday night.

The Firestorm (22-7, 12-5) opened the first half shooting a blistering 60-percent from the field and quickly grabbed a double-digit lead the Warriors (18-11, 10-7) weren't able to recover from.

Coach Lance Von Vogt said the loss was a difficult one to take as his team was without some key contributors. "Credit to ACU for playing so well and really taking it to us throughout the game. That being said I believe our injuries finally caught up to us in a big way."

The game opened as ACU took an early 13-2 lead. From there, Austin Dill scored on back-to-back possessions as the Warriors trailed 17-9 with 14:44 left in the half.

At the eight-minute mark, Erik Kinnebrew scored on a steal and coast-to-coast dunk. However, the Warriors were unable to turn that play in to a momentum shift as ACU responded with a 12-2 run extending the deficit to 43-15 with 6:08 remaining.

Jessup closed the first half as Luis Medearis hit two free-throws in the final minute and trailed 61-27 at the break.

The second half began with Medearis scoring on a driving lay-in, but the Firestorm answered immediately with two dunks and a three moving the deficit up to 68-31 with 15:25 left in regulation.

In the final 15 minutes the Warriors were unable to cut in to the lead and ACU went on to take the victory.

Von Vogt said "ACU is about as good as they come when they are playing well and tonight they played better than any team we've faced all year. We will flush this game tonight and hit reset tomorrow so that we can be ready for Saturday's game."

The Warriors were led by Dill who scored a career-high 26 points on 11-for-16 shooting while Jaydon Clark came off the bench and scored nine on three three-pointers. Jessup will look to close out the regular-season on a positive note at OUAZ on Saturday at 1 p.m.
