Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Matthew Horrocks

Warriors Hit Triple-Digits as They Pick Up Their Third Victory of the Week

Jessup’s 32 assists tie the program record for most in a single-game; every Jessup player scored in the win

ROCKLIN, Calif. - With two wins this week already in their pocket, the Warriors hit the court Saturday for the back end of a back-to-back series with Life Pacific. With no lack of offense to be found, Jessup hit triple-digits for the first time this season, taking this one 103-69.

"Every day, you're looking to get better and bring a great energy," said Head Coach Lance Von Vogt, who finishes up the first of five back-to-back series against GSAC schools this season. "I thought today we brought an equal amount of energy, had a couple of shots where we struggled, but the way we responded today was fantastic."

In similar fashion to Friday's win, the Warriors started efficiently on both ends, excelling on the transition offense en route to a 7-0 start. One of the stars in Saturday's first half was junior Matthew Schmidt, who served as a menace to the Life Pacific defense down low.

An excellent showcase of Schmidt's play came in the final seconds of the first half. Pushing the ball down court to set up a final possession, Schmidt missed two attempts and recorded both rebounds before finally scoring at the horn. He entered the locker room with 13 points to five boards.

The Warriors' first-half efficiency was seen through a 54-percent shooting performance from the field, aided by 17 assists. Three players entered the break in double-figures.

Second half action was similar to that of the first, as Jessup put up 52 points, one more than they scored in the first. On the day, Life Pacific shot 40-percent from the field, connecting on 25-of-62.

In the scoring column, Jessup's high scoring numbers were paired by 32 assists, tying the program record for most assists in a single game. The other game featuring 32 assists came in 2017 in a victory over Northwest Indian College.

"One of the best things about this team is how unselfish they are," said Von Vogt. "They show it every day in practice, and it's nice to see it in the game."

Similar to Friday's win, Jessup got every player in uniform a healthy dosage of playing time, and they showed that hard work pays off with all players finding the bottom of the net. The Warriors had 14 players contribute to their 103 points.

"This is very encouraging for how high we can go because of how much these guys care," added Von Vogt on seeing every player enter the box score.

Leading offensively was senior Tarren Storey-Way, who totaled 20 points and eight rebounds. Storey-Way averaged 14.3 PPG and 10 RPG over the 3-0 week for the Warriors.

Also in double-figures, freshman Myles Corey scored 19, junior Jayden DeJoseph with 14, and Schmidt, who finished with 13. Schmidt added seven rebounds.

After a successful week of basketball, the Warriors now sit at 5-2 on the season, 2-0 in GSAC play. Life Pacific fall to 0-4 in both conference and overall record.

Next up comes Ottawa University (AZ) who will be traveling to Rocklin next weekend for back-to-back games. The first game will take place Friday afternoon, with tip-off scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
