Three-Point Display Leads (RV) Jessup to a 29 Point Win Over Cal Maritime

Jessup connected on 13-of-30 from long range; Corey and DeJoseph both finish with new season highs

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Precision shooting from deep was on full display by the Warriors Tuesday night as they returned home after a long six-game road trip. With the Cal Maritime Keelhaulers in town, Jessup put together an offensive display en route to win number eight, 87-58.

The attack from long-range started right from the jump as Jayden DeJoseph and Myles Corey drained triples on Jessup's first two possessions. The Warriors would connect on 3-pointers for their first five made baskets before their first two came on a layup from Cashemin Williams, setting the score at 17-6.

It was a similar attack from Jessup's contest against Cal Maritime in Vallejo a week ago, as the Warriors fired up 29 attempts from three in that game.

"Well, I really felt we didn't have our legs the first time we played them," said Head Coach Lance Von Vogt after the game. "It'd been a lot of travel. We'd come back overnight from the Oregon trip, and I thought that their game plan to pack it in was a good one. We made sure that we had rest and that we were ready to go tonight, so we felt really comfortable."

Jessup extended their lead up to 13 on a jumper from Jordan Adams midway through the first half, but this was followed by a 7-0 run from the Keelhaulers. The six-point deficit was as close as CMA would get the remainder of the night.

The Warriors led by as many as 17 in the opening half, thanks to a combined 8-of-16 from distance, and at the break, the Warriors held a comfortable 43-29 advantage.

Jessup opened the second half similar to the first, as Corey drained his fourth triple of the night to push the lead back to 17. Corey flashed all over the court on Tuesday, capping his shift off with an electrifying slam dunk before calling it a night.

Von Vogt agreed after the game that it was Corey's most complete performance of the season, as the freshman scored a season-high 23 to pair with six assists.

"Absolutely. Six assists, over 20 points, shot the good ones from the perimeter and drove it when he was supposed to. Was under control, you know, for the most part throughout the game, and I believe that it showed in him getting teammates involved and also getting himself involved to being aggressive both offensively and defensively."

The Warriors pushed the lead up to 26 on a jumper from Myles' brother, Malik Corey, with over 12 minutes remaining. After Myles' dunk with 4:20 to go in regulation, a basket from Kehmarr McMillian pushed the advantage to 30.

Also in double-figures Tuesday night was DeJoseph, as he scored a season-high 17 while connecting on 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. The Warriors had 13 different players score in the win.

"I believe that was a team effort," added Von Vogt. "We got 15 guys on the floor, and so we did it as a team. It was a total team effort."

The win gives the Warriors a season sweep over Cal Maritime and pushes Jessup to 8-1 on the young season, with a tough opponent in Eastern Oregon coming to Rocklin later this week.

"Eastern Oregon is a fantastic team, and they're a team that's capable of making the national tournament," said Von Vogt on Friday's opponent. "It's one of the games that we specifically scheduled so that we can boost our RPI and our non-conference. So we look at these as this game as an opportunity for us to get another quality win to help us with our bid to Nationals."

The matchup between Jessup and Eastern Oregon will get underway Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets ahead of time HERE.
