ROCKLIN, Calif. - It was back to Warrior Arena for the first of their two final home games of the regular season as they welcomed The Master's University Friday night. It was a hot start, a slight setback, but a wild finish as the Warriors advanced to 11-11 overall and 10-5 in GSAC play with the 3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 25-14, 25-15) victory.
Four kills would get things rolling for the Warriors in the first set to kick-start a 5-2 advantage over the visiting Mustangs. A two-point advantage at the least would lead the teams through most of the match before the Warriors would pull away for good on a 6-1 run that had them up 19-9.
Mary Padilla would close it out with a pair of points in an ace and back-row kill to award the Warriors set one, 25-13.Â
The second-set comeback was in full effect for the Warriors as the visiting Mustang's came out on top with the lead through the first 13 points. They would tie it up again at 17 as the Warriors looked to make a push down the stretch with an even match again, 21-21. But the set would tip in the Master's favor with a pair of points to seal the deal and even the match at 1-1.
The Warriors pushed reset in the final two sets as they took early leads in each for the 3-1 win. Leading offensively,
Taylor Dilley headed into the last set with 14 kills already on the night.
The Mustangs would tally one additional point from the previous set as the Warriors took it 25-15. Dilley led on the night with 19 kills, followed by Padilla with 13 and
Madalyn Miller with 10. Holding down the assists was
Mallory Pazin (24) and
Ella Hartford (17), as the defense was led by Padilla (15) and
Lauren Toon (12).
Returning back to Horton Court will be the Warriors Saturday taking on Westmont College for their final regular-season home game starting at 2 pm.
