ROCKLIN, Calif. Jessup Volleyball took the floor for their final home match of the season as they celebrated their seniors on the squad. Unfortunately, Jessup came up short as they battled hard but lost in four sets, 3-1 (12-25, 25-21, 23-25, 21-25).
Set one was tough for the Warriors out of the gate as they trailed 5-1 early. Jessup was able to get back on track, momentarily getting within one point, but Westmont rallied, scoring five consecutive. The surge was too much to overcome for Jessup as they lost 25-12.
A solid start to the second set saw Jessup take the lead 7-4. Westmont, however, kept pace and pushed ahead, taking an 11-8 lead themselves. Westmont continued to hold the advantage, extending their lead to six going up 17-11.
Out of a timeout called by Jessup, the Warriors came out swinging. Seven of the following eight points went to Jessup, and the score was tied up at 18 apiece. As the set carried on into the waning moments, Jessup again went on a run snagging five of the final six points to win 25-21.
Jessup harnessed the momentum from the second set and led to start the third.
Ella Hartford connected with
Mary Padilla, and Jessup went up 7-4. Westmont stayed composed and in turn, regained the lead 14-10.
Not willing to back down, Jessup earned four straight points tying the set at 14. However, once Westmont regained the lead, they never looked back. Jessup put up a fight but lost the set 25-23.
The fourth set was a battle through to the finish. It took seven ties before Westmont got a handle on the action. Midway through the set after breaking away from Jessup, Westmont led 14-13.
Taylor Dilley logged a pair of kills late in the set to keep Jessup's hopes alive but Westmont was able to claim the match with 25-21 for the 3-1 win.
Jessup was led by Dilley's 19 kills while Padilla ended with 15. Hartford had a great outing with 19 assists and
Mallory Pazin had 17. On defense,
Lauren Toon led with 14 digs and Padilla was also in double-figures with 11.
All together, Jessup finished with 10 blocks and Tarble led the charge with 3. From the service line the Warriors had six service aces with five players recording at least one and Dilley led with two.
The Warriors will hit the road to wrap up their season as they are set to play Life Pacific on November 12 at 5 PM and Hope International the following day at 2 PM.
