ROCKLIN, Calif. - Jessup volleyball got back in the win column with a sweep over their former Cal-Pac rival, the Pacific Union Pioneers. Set one went the Warriors' way 25-11, then the final two sets were won, each with a score of 25-16.
Â
Head coach
Tiger Shelton was happy to see his team win but knows they can still find improvement. "It feels good to get in there and have those girls play the way they did to get the win," said Shelton. He continued, "I wasn't one-hundred percent happy, and I don't think our girls were either. We missed a lot of serves today, but overall it feels good to be 2-1."
Â
The Warriors got off to a hot start as they took a quick 6-2 lead, and from there, they never looked back. In what was a wire-to-wire win, the Warriors dominated their way to a 25-11 finish.
Â
In the second set, things were much closer to start. The score was tied five different times until the Warriors scored seven of eight points to take a 14-8 advantage. For the second time in the set, Jessup scored seven of eight points to wrap things up 25-16.
Â
The Pioneers started the third set off with momentum as they claimed the first two points. From there, these teams remained in a locked battle until Jessup called a timeout with the score in their favor 12-11. After the timeout, the Warriors came out on a mission, scoring seven unanswered. The strong push propelled the Warriors to another 25-16 set win to complete the sweep for their second victory of the season.Â
Â
The Warriors were able to get solid efforts across the board, and coach Shelton liked what he saw. "
Cloe Gunter can hit a ball hard as we saw. She's going to be really effective for us moving forward." Shelton continued his high praise saying, "
Shea DeJoseph got in there too and made an impact getting kills, so it was nice to see her playing well on the court tonight."
Â
Taylor MacCuish led the Warriors with nine kills and DeJoseph ended with six, and Gunter had five. Helping to set up those kills was
Botagoz Joslin as she led the team with 13 assists while Pazin logged seven. Defensively,
Lauren Toon had seven digs, and
Madison Marlow, along with Joslin, each had four. From the service line,
Rebecca Jones was lights out with a team-high four service aces.
Â
Next up on the schedule, the Warriors will face off with Bushnell University on Friday at 8 p.m., and that game can be streamed
