Jessup Volleyball Defeated In Final Home Match

The Warriors had a strong first set but were unable to extend the match as they were swept by OUAZ.

ROCKLIN, Calif. – After coming away victorious over Ottawa University (Az.) in match one yesterday, the Warriors (3-7, 1-5) dropped Wednesday's tilt in straight sets to the Spirit (8-5, 6-2). Jessup has now wrapped up their home slate of games and will conclude the season on the road for their next four matches.

The Warriors came out right where they left off in yesterday's match, fast leading 5-2 after a pair of points came from a Taylor Tarble kill followed by a service ace off the hand of Madison Marlow. OUAZ then went on a scoring surge extending their lead to double-digits as the score read 21-12 in their favor. Eight of the next ten points then came from the Warriors in a myriad of ways as they got a pair of aces, three kills, and timely blocks defensively. The late push ended up falling short and Jessup lost the set, 25-20.

In the second set, it was the Spirit who hit the ground running as they led 11-4. The Warriors then went on a scoring run themselves to bring things within two. Jasmine Pinon was able to tally two forceful kills on the outside as a part of the run, but the Warriors still trailed, 12-10. A few moments later, Taylor MacCuish tied the set up at 13-13 with a towering kill in the middle. The Warriors were only able to post three more points as the set got away from them and they lost, 25-16.

Jessup came out in the final set looking to establish a run. Things started nicely as Marry Padilla logged a kill then Botagoz Joslin promptly added two more points from the service line with a pair of aces giving the Warriors a 6-4 advantage. Once the Spirit regained the lead, they held it for good, ending the match after taking set three 25-15.

Padilla posted a team-high 9 kills, and leading in assists was Mallory Pazin with 11. Defensively, Marlow led Jessup with 9 digs while also recording a pair of service aces, and on the front line, MacCuish posted three blocks.
