SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Taking a break from the GSAC season, the Warriors made program history on Friday as they hit the courts in Sacramento. Taking on Sacramento State, Jessup competed against the first NCAA Division I program in Jessup Tennis history.
The Hornets would take Friday's match, the last non-conference bout on the Jessup schedule, 7-0.
Friday began with doubles play, as in the first match
Aysha Hayes and
McKenzie Hawkins dropped their bout 6-1.
Ryanda Guerrero and
Karen Ramos-Paglino would follow, as they fell 6-0 in their doubles competition.
Moving over to singles play, in the number one position, Hayes fell to Megan Tagaloa 6-1, 6-2. Hawkins would follow as she dropped both sets 6-0 against Paige Alter of the Hornets. Losing both sets 6-3, Guerrero had the best individual showing for the Warriors. Ramos-Paglino rounded out the pack with a 6-1, 6-0 loss.
Head Coach
Jon Toney credited the performance of Guerrero, adding that her singles match was the standout performance of the day for this young Jessup program.
With just the conference season remaining for the Warriors, Jessup will take the court next on Friday, March 26, when they travel to San Diego for two matches with San Diego Christian College. Following the Friday doubleheader, the Warriors will face off with Saint Katherine for two more matches on Saturday, March 27.
