Box Score 2 RAMONA, Calif. - Women's tennis began their weekend road trip on Friday with a doubleheader against the GSAC's top team and No. 12 nationally-ranked San Diego Christian. These matches also marked
Juliette Caughey's debut as a two-sport athlete, as she recently finished her junior season with women's basketball.
Match One: SDC 7, Jessup 0
The day began with doubles play as
Aysha Hayes, and
McKenzie Hawkins fell 6-0.
Ryanda Guerrero and
Karen Ramos-Paglino would experience the same result in their doubles match.
After dropping her opening set in singles play 6-0, Hayes provided a strong effort and narrowly missed a comeback win, losing 7-5 in the second set. Hawkins followed in the number two spot, dropping her sets 6-0, 6-1. Guerrero fell 6-1, 6-0, Ramos-Paglino lost her sets 6-1, 6-2, and Caughey would go down 6-2, 6-1.
Match Two: SDC 4, Jessup 0
SDC succeeded in getting the four points necessary to clinch match two, but not without experiencing resilience from Jessup.
The team of Hayes and Hawkins trailed 4-2 in their doubles match, which remained unfinished, while Guerrero and Ramos-Paglino lost their bout 6-1.
In singles play, Hawkins dropped her sets 6-1, 6-1, Guerrero fell 6-1, 6-0, and Ramos-Paglino lost 6-0, 6-0. Hayes trailed 6-2, 2-1, and Caughey found herself behind 6-1, 5-0 when the team match was clinched.
The Warriors will play another doubleheader on Saturday at the University of Saint Katherine. Match time is TBA.
