Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Matthew Horrocks

Jessup Soccer Drops Road Match 3-0 To Life Pacific

Shutout streak ends at 228 minutes; Warriors to host Arizona Christian next week

SAN DIMAS, Calif. – Jessup Men's Soccer (3-3, 1-1) took to the road and headed to Southern California as they matched up with Life Pacific University (3-2, 1-2) in a battle of the Warriors. After allowing a first-half goal, Jessup struggled to find their groove in the second half and lost 3-0.

Head coach Greg Lazaga after the game, said, "Today is a day we just need to be better… coaches and players. Life Pacific took it to us early in the game, and we were not able to respond."

Lazaga went on to say, "The past few games, we lived on some grit as a team. This was the first game in a couple of weeks where it was taken from us, and we didn't respond with enough confidence individually or collectively to achieve what we wanted on the field."

The first half was an evenly matched affair until Yerry Mendez of LPU nailed a penalty kick after a yellow card was issued to Jessup. Despite a few attempts to rally to close out the half, Jessup was down 1-0. Prior to LPU scoring, the Jessup defense had been playing superbly. With the previous two matches being won via shutout, Jessup hadn't allowed a goal for 228 consecutive minutes.

Jessup didn't get the start to the second half they would prefer with LPU netting a goal in the forty-sixth minute. A few minutes later, Jessup got a look from Gustavo Orocio, but the shot was missed high. Then, in the sixtieth minute, LPU put the dagger in as they scored a third time, with Jessup dropping their first GSAC game of the year.

Coach Lazaga knows his team needs to learn from this, saying, "It's got to be a teachable moment for our group. This type of game has to be a lesson. All the credit goes to Life Pacific. We look forward to growing from this!"

Next up on the schedule, Jessup will be back home as they will host Arizona Christian University on March 11 at 12:30 P.M. With fan attendance not permitted, games can be streamed HERE.
