ROCKLIN, Calif. – A brick wall is being constructed in front of the opposing goal at Jessup Field. For the third consecutive match, the Warriors have pitched a shutout as they defeated the Sierra Nevada University Eagles Saturday in front of a packed home crowd.
As it stands, Jessup has held opponents scoreless for their last 274-minutes of soccer.
Jessup controlled the entirety of Saturday's match on the offensive end as they outshot the Eagles 38-2. The Warriors have outshot opponents 105-15 over the past three contests, including a 12-0 advantage on goals.
Head Coach
David Nolan loved the pressure he saw his team apply Saturday, saying after the match, "It's a game we finally controlled the midfield from start to end. We had some dominating performances in the middle, particularly
Keely Fink and
Macey Moen."
Scoring starting Saturday as freshman
Kaylee Gillespie converted on a beautiful shot from just outside of the 18-yard box. The left-footed attacked curled a ball on goal that kissed the left post, ricocheting into the net to give Jessup an early 1-0 lead.
Less than ten minutes later, Gillespie was at it again as her shot from over 25-yards out dipped under the crossbar for her second goal of the game. The two goals would be the only tallies of an opening half that saw Jessup outshoot Sierra Nevada 20-1.
Into the second half, the Warriors continued to press. On two occasions, Jessup came within a fingertip of adding to their lead as
Lauren (McDougal) Case headed two shots on goal, but she was denied by goalkeeper Ashley Baker who totaled 12 saves.
Nolan spoke highly of Baker's performance, adding, "We created a lot of opportunities but credit to the SNU goalkeeper, she was fantastic."
The third goal of the game came in the 80th minute when freshman
Aaliyah Grigsby slotted one home from the left side of the box for her first collegiate goal. The goal was set up off a corner where
Sarah Foulk flicked the ball across the box to set up the opportunity.
Like the previous two contests,
Rachel Cooper-Huber and
Olivia Foulk split duty in goal, with Cooper-Huber recording the lone save for Jessup.
Saturday's victory pushes the Warriors to a winning record of 3-2-0.
This four-match homestand will come to a close on Monday when Jessup welcomes Warner Pacific University to Jessup Field. Game time is scheduled for 4 pm. and will be the last chance for fans to see Jessup at home before they open the preseason finale on September 24.
