ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Warriors continue to hold opponents scoreless on Jessup Field. Closing out a four-match homestand Monday against Warner Pacific, the Warriors scored quickly and never looked back as they produced their fourth consecutive shutout victory.
It did not take long at all for Jessup to take the lead Monday. Warner Pacific began the match with possession and quickly turned the ball over in Jessup's attacking third.
Nadia Vazquez played a perfect pass to
Kye Johnson, who scored just 14 seconds into regulation.
Jessup would add a second goal in the 24th minute, set up by another great pass. Just a few hours after she was named GSAC Player of the Week, freshman
Kaylee Gillespie scored off a great cross to the back post from
Keely Fink.
Seven minutes into the second half, Gillespie was at it again, this time in style. After her first attempt was blocked, Gillespie recovered the ball, spun around a defender, and curled a shot with her left foot that snuck inside the back post to set the score at the final, 3-0.
Gillespie has now scored five goals in the past three matches and takes over the team lead in goals through six matches.
The Warriors again dominated their opponent in the shot column. Jessup outshot Warner Pacific 33-6 Monday, including a 17-3 first-half advantage. Over this four-match homestand, the Warriors have outshot opponents 138-21 and have outscored them 15-0.
After the match, Head Coach
David Nolan spoke about where the Warriors can continue to grow moving forward. Nolan stated, "We didn't play to the best of our ability today, but we are learning to take care of business."
None of the Warner Pacific shots went on goal, as Jessup goalkeepers
Rachel Cooper-Huber and
Olivia Foulk did not need to make a save.
Next up for Jessup is a road contest on Wednesday at Simpson University. The Warriors and Red Hawks are scheduled to take the field at 4 p.m. The next home contest on the calendar for Jessup comes next Friday, Sept. 24, when Mills College visits Rocklin.
