Jessup Continues to Roll with their Fifth-Consecutive Victory

Three first-half goals backed a fifth straight victory; Warriors’ shutout streak finally ends after 436-minutes

REDDING, Calif. – The Warriors took their momentum on the road Wednesday as they continued what has been an incredible two-week stretch of soccer. Visiting the Simpson Red Hawks, Jessup clinched their fifth straight victory in dominating fashion, taking Wednesday's battle 4-1.

Head Coach David Nolan was happy after the match, stating it was a "Great all-around team performance. We started a bit slow but once the game settled, we started to take control."

Jessup pressed from the start Wednesday, ripping off six quick shots to have the Red Hawks on their heels. The opening goal came in the 21st minute after Keely Fink collected a pass from Lauren (McDougal) Case some 30-yards out. Fink fired a line-drive shot that one-hopped past the keeper to set the score at 1-0.

The Warriors made it a 2-0 advantage ten minutes later after Natalie Seuthe placed a ball on the top shelf over the outstretched reach of Simpson's goalkeeper. The goal was set up by an over-the-top ball into the box from Case, who now takes over the GSAC lead in assists with four.

Nolan praised the play of his outside players, adding, "It was a game our wingers and outside backs really dominated and we got rewarded with some great team goals."

Four minutes later, a foul in the box awarded the Warriors a penalty kick, and it was Kye Johnson who placed it perfectly past the dive of the keeper for her fourth goal of the season.

Jessup would strike for a fourth goal in the 72nd minute as freshman Alaina Smathers found the back of the net off an assist from Kaylee Gillespie for the first goal of her collegiate career.

On the goal, Nolan stated, "Alaina Smathers got her first college goal off of a great team build up play."

Things looked to be trending in a similar direction as the previous four matches for the Warriors until Simpson quickly scored following Smathers' goal, ending Jessup's shutout streak at 436-minutes. The four consecutive shutouts had tied the program's record.

Jessup's five-match win streak continues to be powered by a dominating effort on the offensive end. Over these five matches, Jessup has outscored opponents 19-1, outshooting them 165-29 along the way.

The Warriors will look to push the win streak to six after a four-day break as they next take on UC Santa Cruz on the road Monday. The match Monday is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be the final road preseason contest before the conference season begins on Sept. 30.
