ROCKLIN, Calif. – For the third time this season, a member of the Warriors is being recognized at the conference level. After leading the Warriors to a 2-0 weekend in Southern California, guard
Cashemin Williams has been voted GSAC Player of the Week.
Williams has provided a spark to the Jessup backcourt this season, as he joins fellow guard
Myles Corey as the two Warriors to receive this recognition during the 2021-22 season. Williams has started every game this season and averages over 30 minutes of action per game.
Head Coach
Lance Von Vogt has spoken highly of Williams all season. Earlier this year, Von Vogt called Williams a "gamer. And he's a winner. He's a personnel guy. Brilliant, tough, and we build our program on that competitive spirit. He exemplifies it."
The first-year Warrior started his week off by helping lead Jessup to a victory over Westmont on Thursday. Williams led the way with 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Williams was also a key in setting up other players, as he added 8 assists and pulled down 7 rebounds.
Less than 48 hours later, Williams scored 16 as the Warriors took down The Master's University in Santa Clarita. It was the eighth consecutive game in which Williams has scored at least 12 points.
The Fresno native joined the Warriors this offseason after previously playing for Western New Mexico University and Arizona Western Community College. Throughout his first season with Jessup, Williams has frequently shown the style of play that earned him an All-American nod while in Arizona.
Through 19 games, Williams and Corey are tied for the team lead with 15.8 PPG. That mark puts them at fifth-best in the Golden State Athletic Conference. Williams' 49-percent showing from beyond the arc is the fourth-best in the conference.
Jessup is currently on a 12-game win-steak, dating back to November 20. The Warriors are 18-1 overall this season and hold a mark of 6-1 in the GSAC, good enough to put them first in the conference standings.
A tough test awaits Jessup this week as the Warriors welcome GSAC's two Arizona schools. OUAZ starts the week off with a trip to Warrior Arena. Arizona Christian, currently ranked No. 10 in the nation, will be in Rocklin on Saturday.
Before both games begin, the NAIA will get a fresh coat of paint as the latest Coaches Poll comes out on Wednesday. Since the previous poll, the Warriors have posted a perfect record of 6-0. Arizona Christian is expected to jump up from their current ranking as well.
