Three Set Sweep Brings to an End Jessup’s Losing Skid

Warriors end a five game GSAC losing streak; Jessup will be at Hope International and Life Pacific next week

ROCKLIN, Calif. – It's not even been 24 hours since the Warriors were last on the court, and the feelings of yesterday's loss to OUAZ are still alive. Needing to flip the script, Jessup did just that on Saturday, ending a five-game losing skid with a sweep of the Arizona Christian Firestorm.

In his post-match interview, head coach Tiger Shelton expressed a feeling of relief to get back into the win column.

"There's a definite sense of relief of getting the monkey off our back," said Shelton. "I hope there's still that sense of intensity and that sense of urgency, as we can still get a lot better."

Saturday's opening set saw the Warriors close out strong, scoring six of the final seven points to capture a 25-18 victory. That momentum carried into the second set, with Jessup putting forth one of their most dominating performances as they won 25-7.

Jessup at one point led 19-3, blowing the set wide open with a 16-1 run.

What Jessup have struggled with all season is piecing multiple good sets together in a row, and going into the third, the Warriors looked to have solved that problem. Jessup jumped ahead 12-5, and while the Firestorm managed to stay within five or six points throughout, a 5-1 run to end the set gave Jessup match point and a 25-16 victory.

"We were able to play our best for three straight games," added Shelton. "We served well, we passed well, our setters did a great job. Alexis Kepa did a great job and had a great game. It really helps us when everything comes together."

Kepa led the Warriors with 20 assists, she also added seven digs. Mallory Pazin contributed 16 assists and defensively added 15 digs for the double-double performance.

Offensively, Jessup was led by Marina Gonzalez's 11 kills. Madalyn Miller was right behind her with ten.

Now back in the win column, the Warriors move to 3-5 within the GSAC. Jessup will be on the road next week, taking on Hope International and Life Pacific.

The Warriors return to Warrior Arena on October 14 to take on San Diego Christian.
