FULLERTON, Calif. – Coming off a needed victory their last time out, Jessup returned to action on Friday against the Hope International Royals. The Warriors found their rhythm early in this one and never ceased momentum as they pick up their second consecutive sweep.
It's a retribution win for the Warriors, as Hope International came into Warrior Arena earlier this year and walked away with the victory.
With the win, Jessup pulls within a game of a .500 record as they sit 7-8 overall. The Warriors sit at 4-5 within the GSAC, half a game behind The Master's for the final spot in the postseason.
Taylor MacCuish led the Warriors with 11 kills on Friday night, pairing her attacking efforts with a .381 attack percentage.
Sydney Hancock was behind her with eight, while
Marina Gonzalez added seven.
Friday's opening set was a barnburner, as the two sides found themselves deadlocked in a 16-16 tie. The Royals gained some momentum late to pull ahead by three, but back came the Warriors to even it up at 21. That late charge pushed Jessup to a 9-3 run to win the set, 25-22.
There would be no doubt about whether or not momentum would follow into the second set as Jessup produced another dominating stretch to go ahead 2-0. Jessup ended set two on a 10-4 run to push themselves one set away from the win.
Set three was much like that of the previous two, as Jessup got on a late run to lead themselves to victory.
Jessup was able to outlast the Royals by leading them in kills (43-30), aces (9-3), assists (40-28), and digs (71-58).
The win is Jessup's second in a row and is also their second consecutive sweep of the season.
Jessup will continue the road trip tomorrow at Life Pacific, starting at 2 p.m.
