ROCKLIN, Calif. – There is no hotter team right now than the Warriors, as they came into Thursday night's match with Menlo riding a five-match win streak. In a pivotal match, with both Jessup and Menlo tied in the standings, the Warriors again dominated, sweeping the Oaks to make it six wins in a row.
Jessup, now 8-5 within the GSAC, sit 2.5 games behind Westmont. The Warriors' six-game win streak is the longest active streak in the conference, and five of the six wins have come via sweep.
The Warriors outscored the Oaks 75-47 over the three-set sweep. Jessup finished with more kills (42-22), aces (10-4), assists (40-19), and digs (43-29) than their counterparts.
It's an interesting and important week for Jessup. The Warriors are taking on their travel partner within the GSAC, meaning the Warriors will be seeing the Oaks again on Saturday. Menlo drops to sixth place in the GSAC with the loss.
The Warriors were led by 14-kill performances by
Marina Gonzalez and
Madalyn Miller. Miller finished her night hitting .409, with Gonzalez sitting behind her with a .387 showing.
Jessup took the opening set by a dominating showing of 25-11. The set saw Jessup go on a 12-3 run at the midway point. Set two saw the Oaks stay within five points of Jessup, but it still went in favor of the Warriors, 25-17.
The Oaks responded in the third set, scoring five in a row to take a 10-9 lead. Jessup was not faced as they regained the lead and ended on a 7-3 run to take the finale, 25-19.
Jessup and Menlo will now take on one another in Atherton this Saturday. Head coach
Tiger Shelton spoke about playing the same team twice last week, noting that Menlo's Haynes-Prim Pavilion is always a tough place to play.
Shelton also noted he was happy to have the series start at home in Rocklin. "I think that's a good thing. It gives us a shot to take our home-field advantage and use it. And we'll see going into their place. It's going to be savage, to say the least."
Saturday's match is scheduled for 5 p.m.
