TEMECULA, Calif. – Jessup returned to work on Saturday, looking to right their wrongs from a loss against Vanguard 48 hours ago. Taking on the San Diego Christian Hawks, Jessup came up big when needed, but ultimately, they had to settle for a draw.
Saturday's draw means the Warriors will leave Southern California with only one point in the GSAC standings. At 0-2-1, the Warriors sit two points behind the final spot in the GSAC Tournament.
The Warriors got on the board four minutes into the match, thanks to a highlight moment from sophomore
Kaylee Gillespie. Collecting the ball near the far corner, Gillespie took a rip at goal with her left leg, sending a
curling attempt inside the far post for the 1-0 lead.
At halftime, it was still a 1-0 lead for Jessup, with the Warriors outshooting the Hawks 11-5.
San Diego Christian knotted the score at one just five minutes into the second half when Ashlyn Edwards converted off a Brianna Figueroa assist.
Now tied, the Warriors looked to Gillespie to help them regain the lead. She did just that, assisting a goal this time as she found
Hannah Olariu in the 65th minute to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead. The advantage would be short-lived, as Edwards scored her second goal of the match to tie things up in the 71st minute.
Jessup outshot the Hawks 18-16, with nine of the Warriors' attempts going on goal.
Mya Rodriguez played all 90 minutes in net for Jessup. She recorded five saves in the draw.
The Warriors will return to action next Saturday when they take on Menlo College in Atherton. That will be the final match of a three-match road trip, as Jessup returns to Warrior Field on Thursday, October 20.
