Dominating Second Half Gives Jessup a Win in Washington

Napoleon and Jovicevic near double-double performances; The Warriors outscored Northwest by 19 in the final 20 minutes

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Jessup hit the road for Washington this week, kicking off the two-day Cascade Challenge at Northwest University. Taking on the tournament hosts, Jessup dominated from the tip, taking down Northwest 77-49.

After the game, head coach Corey Laster spoke about beating Northwest on their home floor, adding, "I told the girls, 'Hey, they picked you first.' So, we came in with a chip on our shoulder about that. We have a lot of respect for that team."

The Warriors were led by a pair of junior transfers, Makaila Napoleon and Andrea Jovicevic. Napoleon dropped 19 points on 8-of-18 shooting. She paired her scoring efforts with nine boards. Jovicevic was right behind her with a 15 point, nine rebound performance.

Laster spoke to the efforts of Napoleon and Jovicevic, adding, "Makaila did a great job of establishing herself down low offensively in the game. She's a tough matchup for anyone."

"Andrea came off the bench, which was a first for us this season. She did a great job of testing and denying some of their posts."

Jessup took a two-point lead into the second quarter, and that's when things began to flip as they outscored Northwest 22-15 in the second period to take a nine point lead into the break. The second half ended up being all Warriors.

The Warriors went 13-of-28 from the floor in the second half, outscoring Northwest 34-15 in the final 20 minutes of play.

Friday's win pushes Jessup to 2-3 this season. The Warriors will look to start a winning streak tomorrow when they take on The College of Idaho.

"In our last performance, we didn't play in any semblance of what we have been teaching," added Laster, who said he focused on defense all week. "We reinforced defense all week, and that was the difference today."

Tomorrow's matchup with the Yotes is scheduled for 3 p.m.
