Warriors End 2022 with a 94-74 Victory over Simpson

Edwards, Lovelace, and O’Looney make their anticipated Jessup debuts; Jessup returns to action on January 5 against Westmont

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Back to work for the first time in 16 days were the Warriors, taking on Simpson in the final game of 2022. Looking to shake off the rust in one final tune up before the conference season gets back underway, Jessup picked up its fifth win in a row, taking down the Red Hawks 94-74.

Thursday's victory improves Jessup to 10-5 overall this season. The Warriors have found their stride as of late, winning five in a row following a season-long three game losing streak in November.

Making their Jessup debuts on Thursday were three newcomers coach Lance Von Vogt and his staff have waited on for 14 games: Max Edwards, Xavier Lovelace, and David O'Looney. The trio added size and versatility to a lineup that took the court for the first time since receiving votes in the December 14 coaches' poll.

On the debut of his three forwards, Von Vogt stated, "I think that there were some moments where we got a chance to see what they're capable of. And then you saw a lot of rust as well, because there were times we made mistakes. But those three guy had their moments, and they'll continue to knock the rust off."

Lovelace led the newcomers with nine points in his debut outing. He paired his scoring with five boards. Edwards finished the night with five points, adding a team-high six assists, while O'Looney scored four.

Leading the Warriors in scoring Thursday was Myles Corey with 18 points. He also added a trio of steals and a block to the winning effort.

The Warriors also saw contributions from Charlie Garrison who added 13 points. Jordan Adams dropped ten while leading the team with seven rebounds.

Thursday's contest was not only Jessup's final game of 2022, but it was also the final non-conference matchup until potentially the NAIA Opening Round in March. Jessup went 6-4 outside of the GSAC this season, with three of those games coming against teams either ranked or receiving votes.

Jessup finishes the 2022 calendar year 25-11.

The Warriors will now ring in the New Year with friends and family before resuming the conference season on January 5 against Westmont. In Westmont's trip to Rocklin last season, they handed Jessup one of two home losses the Warriors suffered all season.

Westmont's victory on Horton Court was a rarity, as the Warriors have gone 37-5 inside Warrior Arena over the last four seasons. On that home success, Von Vogt added, "I believe that good teams win at home, and we've been a good team over the years. I didn't know that record, but after hearing it, you know, it doesn't surprise me. We want to protect our home court because this is the place these guys work and practice at every day."

After their battle with Westmont, (RV) The Master's will visit Warrior Arena on January 7 to round out the first homestand of 2023. Tickets for all remaining home games are on sale HERE.
