Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Matthew Horrocks

Triple-Digit Scoring Leads Jessup to a Narrow Victory Over Life Pacific

The All-American backcourt of Williams (27) and Corey (23) led the scoring; Life Pacific knocked down 16 threes

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Saturday's battle of the Warriors had everything one could ask for, if you're a fan of high-scoring basketball, that is. On a day where triple digits were needed, Jessup did just that, posting 100 for the first time this season as they took down Life Pacific, 100-95.

The win, Jessup's second in a row, pushes the Warriors to 7-5 overall. Jessup now sits in a four-way tie for first place in the GSAC at 3-1.

On Life Pacific, head coach Lance Von Vogt stated, "They're the number one three-point shooting team in the country. And they showed why tonight, and they don't just shoot at the line. They shoot with range. They have five guys on the floor at a time that can shoot the three. So, it makes you play differently defensively. I didn't think that we did a great job of that."

LPU connected on 16-of-28 from three, compared to a 12-for-29 showing from Jessup. Austin Cook (5-for-6) and Ethan Galang (4-for-4) provided the bulk of the damage done by LPU from beyond the arc.

"It didn't matter if we got up ten," added Von Vogt on LPU's shooting ability. "They could come back with two easy shots. If we miss one bucket, they hit two in a row, it's back to a four-point game. They play a unique brand of basketball. They're really good at what they do."

Trailing by one at halftime, Jessup looked to their All-American backcourt of Cashemin Williams and Myles Corey to kick things into gear. The two responded, with Corey scoring 20 of his season-high 23 points in the final 20 minutes. Four of those points came in highlight fashion, as Corey provided two monster dunks to send fans inside Warrior Arena to their feet.

For Williams, coming off a 12-point night 48 hours ago against Vanguard, he hit his stride with 27 points and seven assists. Williams finished a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe.

"Myles and Cash are finally starting to play comfortable and roll into shape," added Von Vogt on his All-American backcourt. "We went through the flu, and they've also been playing out of position because we've had so many guys out. We're hoping to get healthy here in a little bit. And I think that we're gonna get better as we get healthier, but they're on the back end of the flu. And I thought that they had the legs under themselves for the first time in a couple of weeks."

On if he expects Corey and Williams to continue this level of play, Von Vogt added, "Their performance today is more of what you're going to see from them as we progress through the season."

Another member of the Warriors who continues to stuff the stat sheet is Charlie Garrison. Playing in just his fifth game of the year, Garrison recorded his second consecutive double-double, scoring 15 while pulling down 13 boards.

Von Vogt added that while Garrison may not produce these numbers every night, he will only help the team more as he keeps playing. "I think that as he continues to round into shape, he's going to be better and better. That doesn't mean his numbers are gonna be better than 15 and 13. It just means that he can play a more complete game and do a better job both offensively and defensively in an efficient way than what he did today."

The Warriors now get a week off to rest and recover before the GSAC season resumes for them next Saturday. Jessup will only play one game next week as they host their travel partner, Menlo, Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
