Early Lead Fades Away as Warriors Fall to ACU

Jessup came back early to take a six-point lead in the first; Warriors will play their final road game of the season on Saturday

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Hoping to recreate the outcome from a few weeks ago inside Warrior Arena, the Warriors took a trip south to Glendale, AZ, and Arizona Christian University. The Warriors got off to a fast start but did not finish strong, falling to the Firestorm 83-48.

The Warriors were led on the offensive end by Cheyenne Jankulovski, who scored a team-high 9 points in the loss. Jankulovski also dished out 4 assists and brought down a rebound.

Also with 9 points in this one for the Warriors was Natalie Moulos, who did so on a 3-of-8 showing from three-point range.

ACU jumped ahead by six early in this one, but the Warriors quickly countered to take a six-point advantage of their own, thanks to a triple from Moulos. Through one quarter in Glendale, the Warriors led 21-17.

Feeling good through one quarter, the Firestorm quickly took away any momentum the Warriors had built, holding the Warriors to just eight points per quarter through the second and third. ACU matched their defensive play by putting up a combined 42 points in the middle periods, blowing the game wide open.

Jessup could not mount a large comeback in the fourth, scoring only 11 points in the period, handing them a loss that makes them 13-14 on the season.

The loss also pushes the Warriors to 8-7 in GSAC play. All teams will make the GSAC Tournament this season, but the Warriors are still playing for various seeds in the postseason.

ACU shot 38-percent compared to a 35-percent showing by the Warriors. The Firestorm also won the rebounding battle 49-37.

Only one road game remains on the schedule for the Warriors, and that will come on Saturday when they visit Surprise and OUAZ. The game will be an early tip, as game time is scheduled for 10 a.m. (PST).
