IRVINE, Calif. – Riding high after the first win in program history, the Warriors hopped on a bus and headed south for the first of three games this weekend. Game two of year two took place Thursday, with the Warriors visiting the Eagles of Concordia-Irvine.
Jessup continues to display all of their improvements from a season ago, showing a drastic improvement from their 2021 dates with the Eagles. While CUI did win the game 15-9, excitement for the 2022 season is still at a fever pitch.
The Warriors stormed out of the gates in quarter one, partner stunts, winning the first two routines to take a 2-0 lead. Routines five and four did not favor Jessup, as the Eagles won both, evening the game at two through the first quarter.
Quarter two, pyramids and tosses, saw routines five and four be called again to start. Again, the Eagles won back-to-back points. CUI took all four points in the frame to push ahead 6-2.
The Warriors saw their best quarter come in the third, jumps and tumbling, taking three points to Concordia's two. Routine's four and six saw Jessup wins, while both teams earned a point with routine three.
Entering the fourth, Concordia led the game 8-5.
The Warriors captured four points in the final quarter, as in the fourth, each routine has three total points that can be awarded.
Jessup does drop to 1-1 with the loss, but there is increased optimism for this team after back-to-back strong displays.
The improvements will again be put on display tomorrow as the Warriors hit the mat twice. At 5 p.m. Jessup will face off with Hope International before taking on defending national champion Vanguard at 6 p.m.
Both games tomorrow will take place at Hope International University in Fullerton.
