Warriors Get Behind Early in Both Games of Saturday’s Doubleheader

De Highden hits his first home run of the season; Warriors drop to 5-4 on the season

LINCOLN, Calif. – Back on the diamond after a thrilling end on Friday, the Warriors had eyes on a series victory as they wrapped up their four-game set with the Oregon Tech Owls. The day did not go as planned, as the Warriors got behind in both games and could not mount a comeback.

The day began with the Owls putting up a four-spot in the opening inning, thanks to a two-run homer from Dalton Daily, his third of the series. OIT proceeded to add a run in the second and fourth, pushing their lead to 6-0.

Jessup's only two runs of the 8-2 loss came in the second thanks to a two-run double by Jaisten Cabatbat. Cabatbat had a stellar day in game one, making two spectacular plays with his glove while also finishing 2-for-3 at the dish.

The Warriors managed to use just two pitchers in the nine-inning affair. Caleb Markwith lasted 3.1, while Isaiah Rodriguez tossed 5.2 innings in relief.

Once again, the Warriors put themselves in a bind to start game two. OIT loaded the bases with nobody out, but Shion Matsushita managed to get the Owls to hit into a double-play, allowing just one run to score in the inning. The big blow came in the third when the Owls put across six.

The Warriors climbed back into the ballgame in the fourth, starting with an RBI single by Connor Lane. The big blast came via the bat of Rhys De Highden, as his three-run shot to left cut the score to 7-4.

Dylan Cole continued his trend from Friday, as in the fifth, he drove in a run with another double that nearly missed becoming a game-tying home run.

Two runs in the final inning sealed the deal, as the Owls took home a 9-5 victory and a 3-1 advantage in the series.

Matsushita only tossed the one inning. Richard Vidal then came in to allow four runs over 1.2 innings of work. Jason Riviello tossed 1.1 innings, and Marlin Brucato closed the door, tossing the final three innings of the game.

With two losses Saturday, the Warriors drop to 5-4 on the young season.

Another home series awaits Jessup as yet another Cascade Collegiate Conference school pays a visit to McBean Park, this time, it's the Bushnell Beacons. That series begins next Friday with an 11 a.m. first pitch.
