AZUSA, Calif. – On a neutral court in Southern California, the Warriors continued their season Friday by taking on Southwest Minnesota State. Jessup Tennis continues to grow and progress throughout the season even though they lost Friday by the final of 7-0.
Singles action saw
Aysha Hayes play in the one position yet again, and her bout reached a three-set tiebreaker after Hayes clawed back to take set two. The tiebreaker went in favor of SMSU's Courtney Leonard, as she won the match 6-3, 6-7, 10-5.
Also battling to a third set was
Danielle Akabane, who won the second set in her match as well. Hayes dropped set one 4-6 before bouncing back with a 6-4 win. The tiebreaker was lost 6-10.
Nicollet Alexander (1-6, 3-6),
Sydney Page (0-6, 0-6), and
Juliette Caughey (2-6, 2-6) all competed in singles action as well.
Over to doubles play, Hayes and Alexander competed in the one position in a 2-6 loss. Page teamed up with Akabane (3-6), and Hawkins teamed up with Caughey (1-6).
For Caughey, Friday marks her first appearance of the season as she transitions from the basketball court to the tennis court.
Jessup will be back in action tomorrow as both the men's and women's teams will take on Marymount. Matches are scheduled for 10 a.m.
