DAVIS, Calif. – It was just a short drive west on I-80 for the Warriors this weekend as they took part in UC Davis' Aggie Open. Another week of PRs and top performances highlighted the meet as Jessup continues down the 2022 schedule.
Head coach
Jeff Magley spoke after the meet and stated, "Overall this was really good for us. We had a lot of really talented Division I teams competing, along with some very good Division II schools and junior colleges as well. We did a nice job of competing right in the mix."
In the women's 800m, Jessup's
Hailey Hopkins had a performance to highlight as she set a new PR with a time of 2:38.68. It's an 11 second improvement on her time from last weekend at the Kim Duyst Invitational in Turlock.
Also setting a new PR on Saturday was
Lacy Ceremony. Ceremony competed in the women's 3000m, setting a new best time of 12:02.20. The time is over one minute faster than her previous running of the 3000m at the Sunshine Open on February 12.
In the javelin,
Jessica Pedretti posted a new PR with a mark of 33.89m.
Alexandra Banducci also set a new PR in the javelin with a mark of 17.53m. Banducci was not done setting PRs, as her mark of 8.70m sets a new best in the shot put.
In the men's competition, Jessup saw a great performance out of both relay teams competing this weekend.
Jessup's 4x100 team ran their fasted time of the season, finishing at 44.28. The team consisted of
Jonathan Joe,
Joshua Snyder,
Peter Constant, and
Kamil Jones on the anchor. Snyder and Jones teamed up with Andrei Matai and
Hunter Hughes in the 4x400m relay, finishing fifth with a time of 3:31.24.
Adreon Walker continued his hot start to his freshman year as he set a new PR in the long jump with a mark of 5.78m.
Overall, the Jessup men finished in a tie for 11th place out of the 14 team field. The Jessup women took ninth.
The track season continues early next week as a select number of Warriors will be competing at the American River College Multi-Event. The rest of the team returns to action on March 19 for Sacramento State's Hornet Invitational.
"We're looking for a really good week of training and some really strong performances next week on a on a fast track in Sacramento State," said Magley on the mindset moving forward.
