SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Jessup was back in action on Saturday as they took part in Sacramento State's Hornet Invitational. It's the second week in a row where the Warriors competed close to home as they are coming off the Aggie Open a week ago at UC Davis.
"Today was a critical meet for us heading into our bye weekend," said head coach
Jeff Magley. "We wanted to emphasize some quality performances on a great facility against high level competition including multiple Division I schools and we did a great job of evaluating our performance level with some high quality marks."
The day was highlighted by action in the 5k, as Jessup's distance runners put on a great performance to set new PRs.
Azalea Prince continues her great season that started back in the fall with cross country. Prince posted a new PR in the 5k with a time of 18:19.75.
Alejandra Ceja also posted a great time of 19:25.95, moving her into the top-10 rankings all-time for Jessup track.
Lacy Ceremony set a new PR with a time of 20:17.51.
"Today was Azalea's second big 5k PR of the season," said Magley.
In the men's 5k,
Logan Dodge posted a personal best time of 15:51.32. Magely spoke about the performance of the Jessup men in the distance events, adding, "
Logan Dodge had a great improvement in the 5k from two weeks ago breaking the 16:00 barrier today. And then
Noah Claasen coming up huge in his first steeplechase race of his career is now 2nd all-time in school history."
In that 3000m steeplechase event, Claasen posted a time of 10:19.98.
The highlight of the day came in the throwing events as
Jessica Pedretti punched her ticket to nationals in the discus. Pedretti won the event, setting a new school record in the process with a mark of 43.23m.
At the time of the event, Pedretti was second in the nation in the discus.
Back to the track, Jessup's
Kamil Jones moved to second all-time in program history with his 10.99 finish in the 100m.
Jonathan Joe (400m),
Cameron Chaddock (200m), and
Jayden Jackson (800m) all posted PRs on the track as well.
Magely also touched on the performance of the Jessup relay teams, adding, "Our relay teams also had a great day with the men's 4x100 and 4x400, and women's 4x100 all running season best times and moving onto our top 10 all-time list for all three relay teams."
Overall, the day in Sacramento can be deemed a success as Jessup now transitions to a bye week on the schedule.
The Warriors return to action on March 31 when they visit San Francisco State University and the Mike Fanelli Track Classic.
