History Made on the Courts as Jessup Wins First-Ever GSAC Tournament Matches

Men’s Tennis wins the first match in the program’s history; Women’s Tennis win their first-ever GSAC Tournament match

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The 2022 Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament got underway Monday with both the men's and women's teams of Jessup drawing Marymount. Back by comebacks in both matches, Jessup made history on the courts, winning both matches to advance.

For Men's Tennis, their 4-3 victory comes at the perfect time as it is the first win in program history. The Warriors had been 0-12 on the season and drew the ninth seed in the tournament.

After Marymount took the point for double's play, the Mariners preceded to put Jessup in a bind, getting one point away from the win with a 3-1 lead. Aidan Sauer started the comeback as he picked up his first collegiate win (6-1, 6-2).

Kadyn Silva evened the match at three with his singles victory (6-4, 6-4). The final match to finish saw Sam Smith battle back after losing the first set. He won the second set 6-2 and ultimately won the third 6-3 to secure Jessup its first-ever win.

The women's match saw a similar start, as Marymount took the doubles point and quickly added two more in singles play to go ahead 3-0. The Warriors then rallied back to win four singles bouts to take the match 4-3. It's the first GSAC Tournament win in program history.

Juliette Caughey got the Warriors their first point of the day as she won her match in straight sets (6-0, 6-1). Aysha Hayes then won her match 6-3, 6-4. McKenzie Hawkins needed three sets, but she was able to get the win (7-5, 1-6, 6-1) and even the match at three.

The winning point came via Nicollet Alexander who needed three sets as well before taking the match (6-2, 6-7, 7-5).

With the victories, Jessup now advances to the next round of the GSAC Tournament. The Jessup men will take on No. 1 seed San Diego Christian at 12:30 p.m. The Jessup women will take on No. 1 seed OUAZ at 9 a.m.
