SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A busy week for the Warriors wrapped up Saturday at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, as Jessup competed at Sacramento State for the second time this season. Beginning with multi-event action in Turlock, the Warriors have a lot to celebrate as the season rolls on.
Head coach
Jeff Magley said of Jessup's performance, "It was a solid week for us. We had some really good highlights."
The highlight performance of the week goes to
Alexis Jones, who met the NAIA B-Standard today in the triple jump. Jones qualifies for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship for the second season in a row after qualifying as a member of the 4x400 relay team a season ago.
It's the sixth time a Jessup athlete has qualified for nationals this season, matching the mark set by the Warriors a season ago.
Jones took third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.53m. Due to the wind being over 2.0, the mark does not qualify for a school record.
Staying in the jumps,
Hunter Hughes set a new PR in the high jump with his mark of 1.75m. The mark puts Hughes, a freshman, second all-time in Jessup history for the event.
"That was a big breakthrough jump for him," said Magley on Hughes' performance. "That puts him in the picture of being competitive at the conference meet. A great job there."
Peter Constant also had a day to remember, as he set two new PRs in the sprint events. Constant set a new best time in the 100m with a mark of 11.19 seconds. He followed that up with a time of 23.24 seconds in the 200m, his second PR of the day.
The week started at Stanislaus State as
Alexander Travis, and
Jayden Jackson competed at the Stanislaus State Multi-Event.
Jackson set a new PR with her score of 3866 in the heptathlon. Her score put her in second place in the competition. Travis too posted a PR in the decathlon, posting a score of 5216.
The Warriors will return to competition on April 15 when they compete in the Johnny Mathis Invitational at San Francisco State.
