ROCKLIN, Calif. – No. 2 Jessup STUNT wrapped up its historic second regular season Saturday afternoon with two victories against Concordia-Irvine and Riverside City College. Jessup's win over Concordia was the first in program history, as the Warriors avenged a 9-15 loss to the Eagles from February with a comeback victory.
"Concordia is an amazing program. They've been around for a ton of years. So it was great. It was a hard game. But these girls, they push themselves. They did new routines that they hadn't done before. And it was so amazing to come away with that win," said head coach
Alexis Welch.
Jessup trailed 3-2 after the first quarter against Concordia, but battled back in the second to take a 5-4 lead into the half. It was a low-scoring third quarter, but the Warriors took two points to Concordia's one to extend the lead to 7-5 after three. Both teams battled in the fourth quarter, but Jessup had a 6-4 edge to take the match 13-9.
The Warriors wrapped up the day in decisive fashion, defeating the Tigers of Riverside City College 18-3 to wrap up the regular season. The win gave Jessup its tenth of the season, giving the program double-digit wins in just its second year.
The Warriors were elevated by an impressive first half, as they scored all eight points possible to take an 8-0 lead.
"We are so excited to wrap up our season with another really big win against Riverside City College. These kids have been pushing themselves all year, and they get better and better every single game," added Welch.
Jessup now has three weeks to prepare as the Warriors are set to host the 2022 College STUNT Nationals at Warrior Arena on April 29-30.
"We are just so excited to have qualified for nationals and to be ranked second going into Nationals. It's absolutely amazing for a second-year program," said Welch. "We are going to push ourselves, and we are excited to see whoever it is and hopefully be competing in that championship game at the end."
