Road Trip Ends in Four Sets at The Master’s

Jessup drops their fourth consecutive GSAC match; The Warriors will be back home next week against OUAZ and Arizona Christian

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Back to the court went the Warriors on Saturday, looking to bounce back after a five-set loss yesterday in Santa Barbara. Taking on The Master's University, Jessup struggled to take over momentum, losing the match in four sets.

It was a tough turnaround for Jessup, who played five sets of volleyball less than 24 hours ago. Head coach Tiger Shelton was asked on Friday if the short turnaround could be seen as a benefit. His response was that he would find out when the team took the court Saturday.

"I don't know," Shelton said Friday night. "We'll see if we play like this. If we play well, we should have no problem."

Shelton also pointed to a need for consistency over the weekend. The Warriors played one of their most efficient matches on Friday, but on Saturday, they could not match the scoring of their counterparts. "If we can play that level of ball every time, we'll be dangerous," added Shelton.

The Warriors totaled 46 kills to 57 by the Mustangs on Saturday. TMU also finished with more blocks (9-7), digs (64-60), and assists (53-43). Jessup was outscored 71-60 in the match.

A slow start by Jessup put the Warriors behind the eight ball through one set, as TMU took a 1-0 lead after a 25-16 win in the opener. Jessup quickly bounced back, winning the second set on a Paulina Harris kill that captured a 25-15 win.

It looked like the ten-point victory in the second set could propel the Warriors to a run, but the momentum was short-lived as TMU won their second set of the night, again by the final of 25-16. Jessup fought back late in the fourth, but it wasn't enough as TMU captured the match with a 25-22 win.

Jessup was led by Madalyn Miller's 12 kills on a .229 hitting percentage. Taylor MacCuish totaled ten kills in the loss, while Marina Gonzalez finished with nine.

TMU hit .291 in the win and was led by three players finishing with double-digit kills.

For the Warriors, now 5-7 overall (2-4 GSAC), they will need to get back on track as they have lost four in a row in the conference. The Mustangs move to 7-4 (3-2 GSAC).

Jessup will get two chances to right the ship next week, beginning with OUAZ on Friday night. The Warriors will then welcome Arizona Christian to Warrior Arena on Saturday.
