Jessup Could Not Sustain Fast Start in Fifth Straight Loss

The Warriors won the first set for the sixth time in their last seven matches; Jessup to host ACU tomorrow

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Warriors needed a win coming into Friday night's matchup with the OUAZ Spirit. After a fast start to the GSAC season, Jessup have fallen in four consecutive matches, and with the final result of Friday, the streak now moves to five.

What has gone wrong for the Warriors as of late still needs to be figured out. After a 2-0 start to the conference season a month ago, the Warriors have now placed themselves at 2-5 within the GSAC.

For the sixth time in their last seven matches, Jessup started hot, winning the first set. It was a rather dominating showing in the first set, as the Warriors claimed a 25-12 victory.

The Warriors totaled 15 opening set kills to the Spirit's four, and they hit .429 in the set compared to a -.050 showing from their counterparts.

But in the second set, things began to shift, as the Warriors put together a .000 hitting percentage in a 25-22 loss. One set later, the Warriors made a late run to force extra points, but it was OUAZ who won 26-24 to take a 2-1 lead.

The Warriors again tried to make a late run in the fourth, but they could not extend the match, falling 25-22.

Madalyn Miller led the Warriors with 14 kills Friday night, hitting .212 in the process. Marina Gonzalez finished with a double-double of 13 kills and 11 digs. Mata Iupeli and Taylor MacCuish totaled eight kills each.

Mallory Pazin closed the night with a team high 20 assists. Alexis Kepa led with 16 digs.

The Warriors will have another shot to get into the win column tomorrow afternoon when they welcome Arizona Christian to Warrior Arena. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m.
