ROCKLIN, Calif. – William Jessup University, one of Northern California's premier private Christ-centered universities, is now known by a new and familiar name. In a campus-wide initiative led by the university's marketing team, the university will now be known as Jessup University, effective immediately.
Jessup University and Jessup Athletics will continue to honor the university's legacy and those who paved the way for the students and faculty of today. The new name continues to honor the history of the university, its founder, and the family that shapes it today.
The university took the name of its founder, William Jessup, in 2003 as the school prepared to move from its original home in San Jose to its current location in Rocklin. Jessup arrived in Rocklin in 2004, setting up the campus at the former Herman Miller Furniture factory off Sunset Boulevard and Highway 65.
Opening in September of 1939 as San Jose Bible College, the campus later evolved into San Jose Christian College in 1989 under the leadership of Dr. Bryce Jessup, William Jessup's son.
Upon the move to Rocklin, Jessup became a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), an organization the university remains a member of to this day. Jessup initially joined the California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac) before transitioning to its current home in the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) in July 2014.
Jessup Athletics is home to the Warriors and the university's 16 varsity teams. With the transition, Jessup Athletics will now be abbreviated only as Jessup. The usage of WJU will no longer be accepted as an abbreviation of the university.
Along with the name change, the university has unveiled a new logo and color scheme. This new logo and color will be used for marketing purposes throughout the university. Jessup Athletics, however, will continue its usage of the warrior head logo, along with the color pallet of royal blue, red, and white, as its primary brand representation.
