ROCKLIN, Calif. – After a hypercompetitive first half Thursday, Jessup was nipping at the heels of the nation's No. 2 ranked Westmont. But in the end, Jessup was not the team to snap Westmont's 12 game win-streak to start the season, as Westmont was victorious 65-47.
Jessup came out hot in this one, taking an early 12-2 lead in the first, but Westmont would charge back to end the period on a 14-3 run. Through one, Jessup narrowly led their undefeated opponents, 15-14.
The second quarter again saw the Warriors keep up with Westmont, as through one half of basketball, Jessup only trailed by two.
Thursday's second half was a different story. Westmont found its groove out of the break, shooting 45 percent in the third as they put up 26 points. Jessup managed to only post ten in the frame, placing them in a bind entering the fourth quarter trailing by 18.
An even fourth quarter would see Jessup's six game win-streak come to an end.
Leading all players in scoring Thursday was Jessup's
Andrea Jovicevic, as she dropped 18 on 7-of-12 from the floor.
Maila Lepolo (11) and
Natalie Moulos (10) also finished in double-figures.
Westmont saw a trio of players score in double-figures as well, as they shot 38 percent from the floor.
The win moves Westmont to 13-0, 6-0 within the GSAC. Jessup drops to 9-6 overall, 4-2 in conference play.
Jessup gets back to work on Saturday when they take on The Master's at 11 a.m.
