ROCKLIN, Calif. – A battle of Warriors ensued on Warrior Field Thursday afternoon as Jessup welcomed Life Pacific for a GSAC meeting. The goals came early and often for the Warriors of Jessup, as a shutout on home turf secured Jessup's first conference victory of the season.
Jessup, now 1-3 in GSAC action, improves to 5-8-1 overall in year two under coach
Amsalu Fantahun.
Kye Johnson put on a show in the first half as the junior forward netted two of the Warriors' three opening goals. Johnson wasted little time in scoring her first of the day, coming nine minutes into the match off a perfect pass from freshman
Adelaide Mae Smith.
Johnson was not done there. Her second goal of the half came in the 35th minute, a header that sailed into the air and over the outstretched reach of the keeper to set the score at 3-0.
That header from Johnson was set up on a cross from
Kaylee Gillespie, who added a goal of her own in the 11th minute. Gillespie's goal was a milestone moment as it was No. 27 for her career, tying her for the most goals scored in program history.
An opportunity to break the record will unfortunately have to wait, as Gillespie was sent off late in the first half.
Goalkeeper
Lilliana Fenn played 73 minutes in Thursday's victory before Fantahun called on
Madeline Jern to replace her. Fenn recorded five saves during her time on the pitch.
Three conference matches remain on the schedule following Thursday's victory, two of which coming away from Rocklin. Jessup will be back in action on Saturday, October 21, when they visit Vanguard in Costa Mesa.
The Warriors will return home on October 28 as they host Senior Day against Hope International.
