ROCKLIN, Calif. – For the second season in a row, the Warriors will hit the court on a day when eyes will be fixated on something more important than basketball. This Veteran's Day, Jessup will work to raise money for veterans of the United States Military as the second installment of Hoops for Heroes returns to Horton Court.
Jessup will take the court against the Oregon Tech Hustlin' Owls, donning their black and camouflage uniforms designed specifically for Hoops for Heroes. The Jessup/Oregon Tech rivalry has seen matchups on the biggest stage in recent years, including a matchup in the NAIA Opening Round in 2022.
But the 2023 installment of the rivalry will be more than a game. In attendance will be veterans of the U.S. Military, dating back to the Korean War, and a special ceremony to honor those veterans will take place right on Horton Court.
There are even VIP ticket packages on sale right now that will get fans access to exclusive seating and a private event before game time. Those special ticket packages can be purchased
HERE. Fans will also have the option to add a donation at checkout.
All military veterans will receive free admission to this game.
Fans will want to ensure they are in their seats early for the scheduled 2 p.m. tip, as a special pregame ceremony will take place to honor veterans. Amongst many things, veterans will be on the court to present a folded flag along with the building of a battle cross.
The flag will then be presented to families of military veterans.
At halftime, a special on-court presentation will be made featuring the West Park of Roseville Veterans Club.
Major Des Nelson of the United States Army Reserve said of the event, "The main purpose of this night is not just to raise funds. The main purpose is to honor our Jessup veterans. Our student veterans, faculty veterans, and staff veterans."
Over the past 365 days, work to improve the lives of veterans on the campus of Jessup University has been ongoing. Since the first Hoops for Heroes in November of 2022, the location of the on-campus Veteran's Resource Center has moved to a more spacious section of campus, something Nelson put a large emphasis on leading up to the event one year ago.
"Our hope is that this event allows us to open up funding and work-study programs for veterans," added Nelson, a military chaplain who is also a University Advancement Officer for Jessup. "The new Veteran's Resource Center will give veterans a place to receive VA resources."
Tickets are still on sale for the November 11 contest against Oregon Tech. The Warriors started their season on October 28 when they hosted SAGU, and the season continues this weekend with the 17th annual Bill Holtz Warrior Classic.
