Warriors Suffer First GSAC Loss in Santa Clarita

TMU outshot the Warriors 15-7; The Warriors will be back home next week to play the first of three remaining home matches

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The Warriors got on the pitch Thursday, taking on the Mustangs of The Master's University in an important conference matchup. Coming off a perfect weekend against the GSAC's two Arizona schools, Jessup could not register the equalizing goal as they suffer their first conference loss of the season.

Jessup, now 2-1 in conference action, see their overall record move to 7-4-2 on the year.

Head coach Greg Lazaga offered his comments after the match, stating, "We need to learn how to play on the road. We came out slow and allowed Master's to dominate momentum. That's not going to get us where we want to be. We brought a little more in the second half and had some opportunities but we're also a little stretched defensively. Always harder to win on the road. One to learn from."

Goalkeeper Gerardo Perez Plata spent all 90 minutes defending Jessup's goal in Thursday's battle. Perez Plata recorded four saves while allowing just the one TMU goal. That lone goal came in the 12th minute of the match when TMU's Tyrik Trotman converted off an assist from Caden Zierenberg.

Jessup ripped off seven shots to 15 from their opponents. Just two of the Warriors' attempts went on goal, both coming off the foot of Eduardo Guillen.

The victory hands three points to the Mustangs, giving them six on the season. Jessup also sits on six points in the GSAC table, but TMU now holds a tiebreaker thanks to their head-to-head victory.

Jessup will now take a week off before returning to their home field on October 12, when they welcome Life Pacific to Rocklin. Three home matches remain on the schedule as Jessup has yet to take on UC Santa Cruz (October 18) and Hope International (October 28).

Tickets for all remaining home dates are on sale HERE.
