HONOLULU –
Jordee Magana scored in the second minute, and Jessup held that lead for nearly an hour before settling for a 1-1 draw with Chaminade on Saturday at Saint Louis Field. The result snapped a seven-match losing streak and gave the Warriors their first point in PacWest play this season.
Jessup struck early as Magana finished off a feed from
Jesus Rios at 2:28 for his first goal of the season. Chaminade's Cyrus Khosravi equalized in the 58th minute. The Warriors went to halftime up 1-0 despite being outshot 9-4 in the first half. They took six shots after the break, their best stretch of the match. Rios and
Alessandro Velazquez each put a shot on goal, and
Jonathan Juarez and
Blake Moore each took two shots to lead the team. Jessup finished with 10 shots, five on goal, against Chaminade's 18 and seven.
Goalkeeper
Curtis Lynch played all 90 minutes and made five saves, holding the Silverswords to one goal despite eight corner kicks to Jessup's two. Juarez,
Jayden Reynolds and
Brandon Acevedo also played the full match. The Warriors committed 17 fouls, matching Chaminade, and Reynolds picked up Jessup's only yellow card in the first half. Chaminade was flagged for seven offsides, to one for Jessup.
Jessup moves to 2-11-2 overall and 0-6-1 in PacWest play, and is 1-3-2 on the road. The Warriors stay in Honolulu for a conference match at Hawaii Pacific on Monday, Oct. 26, with kickoff at 10 p.m. PT (7 p.m. HST) at Waipi'o Soccer Complex. They close the regular season Saturday, Oct. 31, at Dominican, with kickoff at 3:30 p.m. at Kennelly Field in San Rafael. That match is a rematch of Dominican's 5-1 win in Rocklin on Sept. 22.
