Loss to Multnomah Ends Jessup’s Portland Trip

Ja’Maris Blackmon drops a season-high 28 points; The Warriors will be in Merced on Tuesday evening

PORTLAND, Ore. – Jessup's two-game trip in Portland came to an end on Saturday afternoon as the Warriors took on a new friend in Multnomah University. With the two sides squaring off before Multnomah officially becomes a Jessup campus, the win went to the hosting Lions, who took down Jessup 78-72.

Multnomah improves to 3-1 with their victory, while the Warriors drop to 5-3 under first-year coach Mark Darnall.

Guard Ja'Maris Blackmon led the scoring efforts for Jessup as he dropped a season-high 28 points on 10-of-19 from the floor. Blackmon connected three times from beyond the arc and posted a perfect 5-for-5 showing from the charity stripe.

Jessup won the rebounding battle, 34-31, and also shot three percent better than their opponents.

What ultimately hurt the Warriors was a series of large runs by the Lions. Multnomah started the game on a hot streak, opening up to an 8-0 lead before Jessup produced a 10-2 run of their own to even the score. Multnomah's next run of notoriety came in the final minutes as an 11-2 run put the Warriors down nine with 14 seconds to go.

There were eight lead changes in Saturday's contest, but Jessup saw their largest lead of the game be only four points. The nine-point advantage by the Lions proved to be their largest of the evening.

Myles Corey and Emmett Holt both added eight points in the loss. Corey dished out seven assists, while Holt pulled down three rebounds. Aydan Janssan and Malik Patton led the Warriors with six boards each.

Corey continues his climb up the all-time scoring charts, as he needs just 23 points to catch his former backcourt partner Cashemin Williams for second in program history.

Multnomah ended the game with four players scoring in double-figures. Tyrese Taylor led the way with 20 points on 8-of-17 from the floor.

The Warriors will be back on the road on Tuesday when they visit the Bobcats of UC Merced. Jessup comes into that game winners of 15 straight against Cal Pac opponents, dating back to November of 2019. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Jessup will be back on Horton Court on November 25 when they host Pacific Union, another Cal Pac foe.
