Warriors Complete Season Sweep of Simpson

Myles Corey moves within 43 points of becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer; Jessup to start GSAC play on Thursday

REDDING, Calif. – The Warriors closed out 2023 on Saturday with a trip to Simpson University in Redding. Looking to replicate the outcome from their matchup with Simpson earlier this year in Rocklin, Jessup held on for 40 minutes as they earned a 91-77 victory.

Jessup is now 9-4 under first-year head coach Mark Darnall as they improve their win streak to four games.

Leading the way for the Warriors was senior guard Ty Artis. Artis, who has been red-hot this season, dropped 26 points on 9-of-14 from the floor, adding a 6-for-7 showing from the charity stripe. The Port Angeles native also added four boards, two assists, and a pair of steals.

Guard Myles Corey also had a big night as he scored 18 points on 7-for-11 from the floor. Corey continues to close in on history as he is now just 43 points shy of the program's all-time scoring mark.

Ja'Maris Blackmon, Xavier Lovelace, and Aydan Janssan all added ten points. Janssan paired his offensive efforts with 11 boards, giving him his fourth double-double of the season.

The Warriors shot 53 percent from the field on Saturday, adding a 60 percent showing from the line.

Jessup scored first in this one, coming 14 seconds into the game as Janssan connected on a triple. The Warriors would then lead for the next 39:46 of regulation as Simpson was never able to match Jessup's score or take the lead.

The Red Hawks were led by 16 points from Akin Branco as the team shot 45 percent from the field.

Up next comes the start of Jessup's final GSAC season, as the Warriors will welcome OUAZ for the conference opener on Thursday, January 4. Tip-off against the Spirit is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Jessup will then welcome Arizona Christian to Warrior Arena on January 6.
