ASHLAND, Ore. – The Warriors were on the road Saturday afternoon as part two of their season series with Southern Oregon took place inside the Lithia Motors Pavilion. A back-and-forth battle came down to the wire, as it was another highlight moment by Jessup's All-American that ultimately sealed a three-point victory.
Jessup improves to 7-4 with the victory, their second against SOU this season.
The scoreboard showed Jessup leading 75-74 entering the final minute of regulation, and possession of the ball was in Jessup's hands. Guard
Ty Artis drove to the lane before kicking it out to
Myles Corey, who decided to take on the paint himself.
In typical Corey fashion, the two-time All-American leaped through the air to throw down a thunderous jam over one of SOU's defenders, putting his side up 77-74.
The Warriors ultimately won the game 77-74, as they stopped a potential game-tying bucket at the horn after SOU drew up a play with just a few seconds left. It's the second three-point win of the year for the Warriors against SOU, as the Raiders actually sunk a triple to even the score back in Rocklin, but the shot was taken after the horn had sounded.
Artis led the scoring for Jessup with 23 points, doing so on 9-of-16 from the field. Artis is now averaging 15.8 PPG through five appearances, and he is connecting on 50 percent of his field goal attempts.
Jessup won the rebounding battle, 41-32, as Artis pulled down a team-leading seven boards to pair with seven assists.
Corey added 16 points, moving him 81 points away from Jessup history.
Saturday was just the second time this season that the Warriors managed to win when scoring under 80 points. The 80-point mark has been the key for Jessup through ten games, as Jessup sits 5-0 in those games. The only other time where the Warriors claimed victory when scoring under 80 was also against SOU, a 61-58 win back on November 4.
Now the Warriors get to come home, as next on the schedule is a matchup with the Oaklanders of Lincoln University. Lincoln brings with them head coach Gary Payton, a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
