LINCOLN, Calif. – The Warriors got back on the diamond Friday to begin a three-game set with the visiting Bushnell Beacons. Still looking to win their first series of the season, game one ended on a rough note, but Jessup battled back to dominate their way to a game two victory.
Bushnell started the scoring in the second inning of game one as a two-run home run put them ahead 2-0. But Jessup quickly responded, evening the score at two thanks to a two-run shot from Drew Andrews, his second of the season.
Jessup would hit another home run in the sixth, a solo shot from
Dylan Cole that evened the score at three.
The Beacons struck last in this one, slugging a solo homer to left in the eighth inning to give them the eventual final of 4-3.
Jessup used three pitchers in this one, with starter
Max Moreno lasting just two innings.
Charlie Perkins then proceeded to toss the next four, allowing one run on four hits.
Caleb Markwith gets tagged with his first loss of the season, even though he pitched masterfully, allowing one run on two hits over three innings of work.
Game two wound up being a different story for the Warriors as they posted ten runs on the board to win 10-3.
Home runs from
Brandon Springer and
Kevin Gutierrez added a spark to the offense over the first three innings. The Warriors then added more runs in the third on back-to-back RBI doubles from Andrews and Rozell.
Rozell ended game two 3-for-4 at the dish, scoring and driving in a run.
Trevor Arnston picked up his first win with the club on Friday, tossing five innings while allowing two runs on seven hits. He also struck out five.
Preston Brook allowed one run over two innings of relief.
Jessup, now 3-5, will look to win their first series of the season tomorrow.
The two sides will return to McBean Park on Saturday for a single game. First pitch is scheduled for noon. Saturday was supposed to be the finale of a ten game homestand, but Tuesday's contest with Simpson has now been moved from Redding to Lincoln.
