Softball Splits Again to Wrap up Busy Weekend

Jessup took down Corban in game one to sweep their series with them; Game two ended in five innings after a ten-run loss

LINCOLN, Calif. – After a heartbreaking end to Friday, Jessup was back on the field Saturday, looking to take both games in front of them and walk away with a winning record for the weekend. The day started on track, but in the nighttime finale, things spiraled as the Warriors again walk away with a split.

Now ten games into the season, the Warriors sit at 7-3.

Game one saw the Warriors change things up as Serena Navarrete got her first start in a Jessup uniform. Navarette lasted four innings, surrendering three runs on four hits as she improved to 2-0. Bella MacFarlane tossed the final three innings in relief.

Sarah Giles had the big bat in game one as the first baseman went 4-for-4 at the dish, driving in three runs while scoring two. Her first-inning RBI single started the scoring, and she later added two more RBI on a single in the fourth.

Also having a big day was Sam Lorge, as she went 3-for-4 at the dish. Lorge finished with a triple and a double while driving in a pair.

Corban took the lead in the third as they plated three runs, but Jessup responded as Lorge's RBI triple was followed up with a run-scoring error and a Bailey Reid RBI single to put Jessup on top for good.

Riding high, Jessup was then set for their second crack at No. 13 ranked College of Idaho.

With their ace Katie Blankenheim on the mound, the Warriors had a chance to score early as Lorge doubled to lead off the second and then was bunted to third by Kaylee Winn. But the Warriors squandered the opportunity stranding the tying run on third as COI struck first in the top of the first.

Then came the big inning for the Yotes.

Eight runs on eight hits and an error followed in the top of the third, ending Blankenheim's day early. The Yotes eventually made it a 10-0 game, and the Warriors had no answer offensively as Lorge's double resulted in their only hit.

After five innings, the game was called, giving COI a sweep of Jessup.

The Warriors will be back in action next weekend when they welcome another pack of teams to Lincoln. On the schedule for Jessup will be Northwest and Eastern Oregon.
