LINCOLN, Calif. – Another jam-packed day of softball took place at Wilson Park on Saturday as the Warriors squared off with two schools from the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Needing three outs to walk away with a split, the game took a turn for the worse as the Warriors suffered back-to-back losses on the day.
On the schedule Friday was Northwest University and Eastern Oregon University. The Warriors will see the two sides again tomorrow.
Game one against Northwest was one the Warriors wanted to forget about fast as the Eagles beat Jessup 12-7. Right-hander
Katie Blankenheim suffered her third loss of the season in the outing, lasting just three innings while allowing seven runs (all earned) on eight hits.
Northwest took a 4-0 lead in the third, but the Warriors seemed to have momentum on their side as a
Sam Lorge double drove in a pair. Lorge would later score on a wild pitch.
But the Eagles again broke open the score line, plating five in the fourth and three in the sixth.
The Warriors managed to avoid the eight-run rule in the bottom of the sixth as they posted three in the inning, but no magical comeback awaited them in the seventh as Jessup fell to 7-4 with the loss.
Seeing time in relief in game one were
Serena Navarrete and
Bella MacFarlane.
After a few hours off to recoup, the Warriors got back on the field at 7:20 to take on the No. 19 ranked Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon. It would not take long for Jessup to find the scoreboard as
Lexi Watson lined the first pitch she saw down the left field line, allowing the speedy Watson to race around the bases for an inside-the-park home run.
Jessup tacked on a needed insurance run in the fourth thanks to another RBI double from Lorge.
Terra Goetz started game two and was lights out through five. Finally, in the top of the sixth, EOU got to Goetz as they tagged her for two runs to tie the game. Head coach
Brie Campbell then called upon Blankenheim to stop the bleeding, and she did just that by retiring the first batter she saw for the third out.
With the heart of the order due up in the last of the sixth, the Warriors looked to their hero from earlier spots to again save the day, and she answered as Lorge singled up the middle to plate the go-ahead run.
Needing three outs, the Warriors could not hold on as EOU would score three in the seventh and take the game 5-3.
Blankenheim falls to 3-4 with the outcome in game two.
Lorge wrapped up the day batting 4-for-7 with four RBI, but her team falls to 7-5 on the season. Jessup will be back in action tomorrow at 2 p.m. when they take on Northwest and Eastern Oregon again.
