THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Spring break has arrived at Jessup University, and for the Jessup Tennis program, there will be no break as the Warriors are in Southern California for a busy week. Jessup started the road trip on Tuesday, taking on California Lutheran from Thousand Oaks.
The road trip has gotten off on the right foot for the Jessup men as the Warriors took down CLU 4-3, ending a four-match losing streak. The women's side ended the day on the wrong end of a 5-2 loss.
Jessup took the doubles point in the men's match, backed by an 8-7 victory from
Roger Wen and
Kadyn Silva, followed by an 8-5 win from
Sam Smith and
Austrebeto Carlon.
Isaac Graves and
Mihnea Secara dropped their doubles bout 8-5.
Singles play saw Smith move to 2-0 on the day, winning his match in a tiebreaker (6-7, 6-3, 10-5) after dropping the first set. Carlon was also victorious, taking his match in straight sets (6-2, 7-5). The Warriors got their fourth point via Graves, who battled to win in another tiebreaker (2-6, 6-3, 10-5).
In the women's match, singles victories came from
Aysha Hayes (6-4, 6-3) and
Isabelle Rietz (7-6, 6-0). CLU swept the three doubles contests.
Jessup will continue this road trip at Whittier College, as matches will take place over the next two days. The Jessup men will battle the Poets tomorrow at 3 p.m., but the match time for the women's match is still TBD.
The Jessup women were scheduled to take on Whittier yesterday, but due to rain, the match was postponed to Thursday.
